Intended Use
The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Rapid Test (Whole Blood) is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for qualitative detection of Prostate Specific Antigen in human fingerstick whole blood.
Globally, Prostate Cancer is the second most common type of cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death inmen, Studies of males who died from unrelated causes have found prostate cancer in 30% to 70% of those over age 60.PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) has gained prominence as one of the most valuable tumor markers and is currently used forscreening,diagnosis and monitoring for prostate cancer.Due to highly invasive nature of biopsy, screening with PSA testing obviates avoidable biopsy in many cases, hence preferredby doctors as first line screening test in suspected prostate cancer casesThe generally accepted cut-off level is 4 ng/ml for likelihood of Prostate Cancer and further biopsy. However, there have beenpublished papers on use of 3 ng/ml as cut-off, which has been documented to be of higher significance in early diagnosis ofProstate Cancer.
